Who said cheap film gave cheap results?

Ferrania what? Solaris huh? If you are like me, you were probably wondering the same thing. When I bought my Lomo LC-A last year, the seller chucked in a roll of this 100 iso film free of charge. I tried doing a bit of research on it but failed to find much info on the internet (other than it didn’t cost much), so I decided to do my own first-hand research and fired the roll through my Canon AV-1 on a weekend trip to London. The results I received were more than a little suprising…

First off, and probably the most noticeable trait of this film, is the incredible warmth that makes each exposure glow with an almost (excuse the cliché term) ‘retro’ property. You can take a picture of a blank white wall and it will somehow stand-out in a way in which you never would have thought possible, but that isn’t to say the film isn’t faithful to what you see in real life, it still manages to truthfully replicate every colour in natural light. But it’s when this natural light source is exchanged for indoor lighting that things get really interesting! Using long exposures indoors instead of opting for a flash results in pictures that look anything from cross processed to redscaled.

This film has taught me not to judge a roll by it’s price tag, and that sometimes the best things in life are free.
