Deer grove (Moscow)
In the XVII-XVIII centuries it was part of the reserved forest land belonging to the Transfiguration Palace economy, adjacent to the eastern border of the Sokolnyi grove. The name could be derived from the Olean Creek grove that flowed through the territory. Another interpretation is also possible: sovereigns were engaged in hunting for deer.

In 1879, Sokolniches and Olenya groves were bought by the city authorities from the Ministry of State Property, after which a public park was established on their territory.

In 1896 a dam was built in the Deer Grove to support the pond system. Vacationers boating, walking along the alleys. On one of the ponds was an island with a fountain, connected to the shore by an open bridge.

Currently, most of the Deer Grove is part of Sokolniki Park. The name of the grove is also preserved in the name of the Deer Ponds and the Deer Bridge across the Yauza River.
