A Mysterious Roll Found: Agfa Isopan ISS
6 19 Share TweetI have read a lot of stories about people who found rolls in old cameras. I never had the thrill of this experience, until now.
I found this camera when I was visiting a thrift store in Tilburg, it was laying in a basket full of other (not so interesting) cameras. I mainly bought it for parts as it looked very beaten up and damaged, you can’t really see it in the picture, but that thing really is in a bad shape. Nonetheless, I liked it so I took it with me. I was walking around with the camera in the thrift store, looking for other stuff that caught my interest. At that time I didn’t open the back of the camera yet. Still, this camera felt different, it felt a bit heavier, almost like a roll of film was inside. I carefully opened the camera up a bit and saw a little part of a pink roll. It was quite unwound over the time, so I quickly closed the back of the camera again and went to the checkout. I only had to pay one euro for it.
Back at home I went to my darkroom and wound the roll up tightly again, then I prevented it from unwinding by placing a little rubber band over it.
Time passed fast, but I never forgot about that mystery roll. At one point I just had to let it be developed, too curious I guess. The people at the shop found it unusual but funny to still have to develop such an old roll. They asked me far more details about the roll than they usually would, just so they knew that they would do the right thing and not screw it up by wrong processing. I found on the internet that the Agfa Isopan ISS is a 100ASA B/W film, and that’s what I told the people at the store. A week later I got a phone call from the store that my photos were ready. I didn’t expect something was on the roll at all, so I was thrilled when I saw that still 3 pictures made it. As you can see below they came out rather abstract, but I’m really not disappointed with the results.
