QuickieTipster: Create a Strong Vignette!
7 34 Share TweetFeeling disappointed of your LC-A because you expected a stronger vignette effect? There’s a quick and simple way to achieve this effect without modifying your camera.
When I got the first prints from my Lomo LC-A, I was quite disappointed, because I expected a stronger vignette effect. In order to achieve this effect, I first thought of inserting a vignette mask, as the one of a Holga 135 BC. However, I didn’t like the idea that much, because it’s impossible to exchange the mask as long as the camera is loaded. To me it’s better, if the mask is attached outside of the camera. But wait — the LC-A has already got a mask that works perfectly for creating an intense vignette effect. Here’s how it works.
Step 1
Aim.
Step 2
Press the shutter halfway down. IMPORTANT: halfway.
You will have to try this step when no film is loaded. It’s simple: If you press too less, you won’t be able to proceed to the next step, if you press too much, you can’t achieve the effect.
Step 3
Close the lens cover about one third (as seen in the photos below). Obviously you can experiment as much as you like.
Step 4
Press the shutter button all the way.
That’s it.
Have fun with your intense vignette.
