Shooting With an Action Man Camera and Color Tiger 110 Film by Lucas Cerri

2

Photographer Lucas Cerri recently found a rather unusual object, an Action Man figure that is also a 110 camera! He had fun with this gadget to create original and offbeat shots. The 110 format is the smallest film format still available, and the photos taken with these films have a real vintage feel that makes all the images look mellow. Lucas used our Color Tiger 110 200 ISO film to capture irreverent nudes.

Hello Lucas, can you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello, I am Lucas Cerri, young French photographer and self-taught composer. Artistic creation is the leitmotiv that drives my daily life.

In a few words, how would you describe your photography style?

An ode to freedom and poetry, in a humorous or dramatic context, sprinkled with a clean and rather particular aestheticism that makes my mark, and images composed of one or more protagonists, mostly naked.

Can you tell us more about the series of photos you made?

During a shoot in the Camargue area in the South France organized with my very good friend Camille Pons, we stumbled upon a large container storage area. It was a real playground, there was so much potential in this place that I had a hard time focusing on the shoot. There was always a new idea in my little head before I finished the picture I was making. Between the textures, the colors, the dimensions, the artificial shapes, the straight lines and Camille naked in the middle of it all, it was a combo of elements conducive to creation.

Concerning the photos with Shannon and Chantal, we were in an Airbnb in Paris for a show where our works were exhibited, and I proposed them to make photos with my dog head that I like so much to wear. We had a lot of fun making them and we were as delighted with the result!

What is the story behind your Action Man figure? How did you find it?

A few months ago, during an early evening plunged into the meanderings of Instagram, I came across a video showing this Action Man model offering his photography services. It was love at first sight, I ordered it within the hour on eBay.

Being able to take nude photos with this figure originally designed for children is just absurd and ridiculous. That's why I absolutely had to have it.

What did you think of our Color Tiger film?

I was frankly surprised by the rendering. Without lying to you I expected a rather basic result, but finally, even through the lens of the least qualitative of the Action Man there is a very balanced rendering in terms of color and contrast.

What do you like about the 110 format photography?

It is finally a compact version of the 135 format, the grain is certainly less fine but you can afford to have a much smaller and lighter camera and even shoot with an Action Man figure. It's magical! However, you need to find a lab that can properly develop and scan your 110 films.

Do you have any other upcoming projects you'd like to tell us about?

There are quite a few projects in the works, but I'm keeping it a mystery to keep the surprise effect and move forward properly in my creative process.
