Lomography Fisheye One, the Little Camera that Could

4

The fisheye lens was originally developed to help meteorologists to shoot the whole sky and study cloud formations. I don’t know if it’s used that way anymore, but I do know that it gives an amazing effect and that the Lomo Fisheye One is a perfect way to rock it sky high!

Fisheye! Why is it called fisheye, why not dogeye, donkeyeye, tigereye, lioneye, snakeye, horseeye, flyeye or even awesomly, super cool unicorneye?! I have no clue. It makes no sense.

The fisheye lens was originally developed to help meteorologists to shoot the whole sky and study cloud formations. I don’t know if it’s used that way anymore, but I do know that it gives an amazing effect and that the Lomo Fisheye One is a perfect way to rock it sky high!

The Lomo Fisheye One is, except for the Fisheye No.2, the only 35mm camera with a built in fisheye lens! The fact that it’s a 35mm camera gives you the benefits of using cheap, easy to get, and easy to get developed 135-film, which is great. The camera is really simple and easy to use too. Theres only two buttons and one winding wheel to keep in mind. First, there’s the flash switch on the front left of the camera for turning the flash on and off. Secondly, there’s the shutter button on the top. And third there’s the winding wheel on the back, just below the shutter button. To use the camera you just have to wind the film forward, aim, shoot and capture the moment! You don’t have to think about focusing.

The Fisheye One is one hell of a little camera. It’s cute and beautiful and it fits (somewhat tightly though) in your pocket. It also comes with a practical rubber wrist band and lens cap to secure you from dropping it or scratching the lens while engaging in that violent action shoot.

There are some cons too though. It’s not possible to make double exposures, then you have to rewind the film first. Secondly the shutter button is too sensitive, I don’t know how many times I’ve wound up the film without thinking and then put the camera in my pocket or bag where the shutter button mistakingly gets pushed and – wasting one frame in the dark/with the lens cap on. A good thing would be some kind of safety switch or maybe allow double exposures.

Nevertheless it’s a fantastic, cheap little fish eye camera totally worth its price! It’s handy and practical thanks to its size and film format, but also thanks to how easy it is to use. Another amazing things is that the pictures gets the amazing, loveable toy camera quality and feel to ’em. Just bring it, point and shoot!

And don’t forget to get close up, the effect gets more visible and distinct the closer you get.

Closer… Closer…SHOOT!

ha, i knew this was in berlin when i saw shot #5 and read "danziger strasse"! fisheye number one was my first lomo and i was very happy with it (had some nice berlin shots with it too). the flash doesnt work anymore though and that makes stuff a bit difficult since now the only way to use it is on a sunny day :(
