The Astounding Manila Bay Sunset at SM Mall of Asia

One of my favorite past times is watching the sunset. For me, it is like a therapeutic recreation, helping me calm my mind and relax from busy city life. If you live in Manila, looking for a place to watch the sunset is a bit of a challenge because everywhere you tilt your head, there will always be a structure that will block your view. Do you know where the best place to view the sunset in Manila is? If not, then read on to find out!

It’s not a secret anymore, almost everyone residing in Manila knows that one of the best places to view the sunset is by watching it at Manila Bay. And where exactly is the best spot to be? Beside your friends, family and loved ones in the walkway of the SM Mall of Asia, of course!

This mall is said to be the 2nd Largest mall in the Philippines and the 3rd largest in Asia. If you are a local, going to malls is one way of spending quality time with your family, even if you don’t have anything to buy. So during weekends, many families and friends gather there not just to roam and window shop, but to also watch the astounding sunset by the sea. The mall has a long and wide outdoor walkway, where there are restaurants and recreational rides so people won’t get bored while waiting for the sunset. Also, here is where you can also find the famous, Eye of MOA.

The Eye of MOA is a 55 meter diameter ferris wheel with 36 fully air-conditioned gondolas. You have to pay 150 pesos (more or less 4 US dollars) per person to ride the ‘eye’ and I think it is also the best way to watch the sun set, but I haven’t tried it yet.

If you are planning to watch and capture the sunset there, I advice you to check the weather first. The weather in Manila, especially during the rainy season, is very unpredictable, sometimes the clouds are too thick that it blocks the sunset. But if you are lucky enough, you may be able to capture a perfect “after the rain” sunset like this one.
