How to Make a Fancy New Strap for Your Diana Camera
11 41 Share TweetA really easy way to give your camera a unique new look is through a nice camera strap. This tutorial will teach you how to make your camera truly your own. You probably already own all the necessary equipment, so there’s no excuse not to give it a go!
Here in England, there has been a mass exodus to the beach as the sun has briefly appeared. You can practically hear the layers of clothing falling to the floor as we enjoy this brief period of sunny bliss. Summer is officially here! Enjoy it while you can!
In honour of this Great British Summer, I decided to give my camera a fresh new look by adding a new strap to my much loved Diana+.
Equipment needed:
- A belt (I used a bright blue belt, but this would work well with a thin belt of any colour or material. Leather would be a great idea, or floral patterns would really make it summery!)
- Scissors
- A Hole punch
- Coloured Ribbon (for a more masculine design you could use strong rustic twine combined with a leather belt, or perhaps a sleek black combo)
First, remove the existing strap from your camera. It is very simple to remove by sort of unhooking the little plastic joining-thing (I do A-level English, would you believe!).
Next, grab your chosen belt and buckle it closed. To make the new strap, simply make a cut half way around this loop so that you have two individual pieces buckled together in the middle. You will the need to trim the resulting ends so that they will fit back onto your camera through the strap-slots.
Finally, fold over the trimmed ends, and hole punch through both layers. This is where you will tie your ribbon to secure the strap to your camera.
Got that? Great.
Next, slot the trimmed end of your belt into the strap-slot, and fold over so that the holes line up. Tie your ribbon through these holes to secure the strap. You can tie a big bow to make a decorative feature, or keep it low key, depending on your theme. Here, I used a summery colour and made pretty, dainty bows.
And that’s it! There are so many different combinations of colours and themes you could choose, I’d love to try a leather belt with brown or tan ribbon, or maybe a crazy patterned belt? Belts with funky buckles would be great as well, and the best thing is you can pick them up very cheaply from charity shops or thrift stores.
Enjoy your strapping new camera!
