Fishing Village Along Paranaque Coast

The sun sets behind a beautiful, quiet fishing community in Paranaque City, Philippines.

It has been two years since my wife and I settled in Cavite, a neighboring province south of the Philippines’ National Capital Region. Every afternoon, as we take a commute from Manila to Cavite, I always see this fishing village somewhere in the coastal areas of Paranaque City. For the longest time, I have always wanted to shoot that location. It’s just gorgeous to look at from afar, especially when the sun sets behind this quiet community.

With a simple call out in Facebook, me and a couple of fellow enthusiasts were able to set a date for a photo walk. Luckily, one of us lived somewhere near the area, and was kind enough to serve as our guide.

After meeting in front of a parish church, our first major stop was the fish market. This serves as a port where marine harvest from different nearby provinces is brought, and likewise serves as a point of distribution to other community markets. A lot of fishing boats are parked along a small channel. There are also children playing around or helping their parents in cleaning newly-harvested mussels.

Walking further along a narrow road that is sandwiched by the highway and the coast, the small fishing community came to view. Life is pretty much simple for these folks. Most of the households had vegetables planted in front of their house. But of course, fishing is their main livelihood. Their huts, though small, looked romanticized by the setting sun.

A couple of more paces, and one shall see this structure, as shown below, which I truly love; at least just by looking at it. I do not know, however, what it is exactly for. Although, I think I have an idea. Clue: Slumdog Millionaire.

We ended our walk by crossing a nearby foot bridge to get to the other side. From the top of the bridge, you’d have a good view of the stretching highway.
