In downtown Ontario, California.

Super expired film: Maybe earliest 90's expiration, likely late 80's. Exposed as ASA 100.

Do you eat crawfish in California?? Love the result from the super expired film! 👍 Why did you decide to shoot at ASA 100?

@briany Hello. I never have tried crawfish. My dad loves to eat those-he grew up on them. I have eaten turtle and alligator, rattlesnake, lots of rabbit. They apparently sell them out here. When you have expired film I heard/read that you shoot expired film at a lower ASA than rated, like a full step. I thought since this film was VERY expired I should try 2 stops, hence my decision for ASA 100. I like the results also-very artsy in some cases.

@neufotomacher Thanks for the clarifications! Interesting about the crawfish and for some reason I always associated them with the Deep South but that probably more reflects my ignorance about culinary aspects of US culture.
I also did not know about the recommendation for an ASA readjustment when using expired film and I think your choice worked out very well. I agree with the artsy aspect and like the graininess and general pinkish hue.

@briany I would agree about crawfish geography. My dad was from Texas and they can be found near water from North-central, to the gulf regions of Texas. Definitely in other states bordering the Gulf of Mexico and the deep south, and Missouri, Oklahoma, etc. It can be a crap shoot with expired film-you have the best chance of some success when the film hasn't been exposed. Most of the expired film I've shot was never in the fridge or freezer.

@neufotomacher I just remembered that when I was very young and lived in Central Canada (Manitoba) we caught crayfish which are apparently the same as crawfish! I even had two or three as pets but never thought of eating them at that time....hahaha!

@briany There ya' go. They have a far range. My dad said they would use little pieces of raw bacon to draw them out of their burrows.

@neufotomacher Thanks for passing this on! Quite the difference from your example, especially in terms of more of a greenish hue than the pinkish overtone in your shot. I prefer the pink! 😀

@briany There are a lot of photographers here with years of experience and quite friendly to pass it on.
