You might have already met Cécile aka La Fille Renne on our website : through her lomohome or on our magazine. We gave her the Lomo'Instant Square and she shot some really nice portraits with our newest instant camera, proving once again that the square format is perfect for shooting your loved ones and photographic portraiture.

Hello Cécile, how are you? What have you been up to since our last interview?

Bonjour Lomography ! Since our last interview about my book "Review Argentique", I continued doing coops with a lot of nice people, I'm slowly but surely working on volume two, I travelled a lot and I edited a second portfolio, "Life on film vol. 2".

What tips would you give someone who wants to do the same thing as you?

To be patient, to experiment with analog photography can lead to bad surprises and it can be frustrating, but it is important to persevere, then it always pays off in the end.

What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self?

To keep practising photography and hurry to start with analog photography!

What inspires you?

Everything that surrounds me and anything that makes me feel strong emotions: my loved ones, music, a TV show with a special atmosphere, my discoveries during my trips...

Can you tell us more about the story behind the series you did with the Lomo’Instant Square?

I used the Lomo'Instant Square during a stay in Paris at my friends. I took photos with Sabrina Sako, Romuleald and Britney Fierce. Romuleald created a very nice set for us with lights to experiment with.

Some photos were shot for the lingerie designer Sacha Kimmes. I also took photos of the amazing tattoo artist Armelle Stb and Sabrina on a rooftop (this place was magical) and also portraits of @ademainbenjamin.

What is your favorite photo of the series?

It's difficult to choose one, I'm very proud of some double exposures shots and some portraits. If I had to keep only one, I would say a portrait of Sabrina with the lights :

What do you like about instant photography?

I love instant photography because it's magical to be able to hold the shot in your hands and to watch the image develop before your eyes. We have the right to one single shot, so we have to think about all the settings before pressing the release button!

What did you think of the Lomo’Instant Square?

I can't resist a folding camera ! I have always a bit of trouble with cameras with which you have to estimate the distance to your subject subject so it has been a little difficult for me. Like with the other Lomo’Instant cameras, the multiple exposures mode is awesome ! I would also say that it's important to think about the settings before shooting in order to get the best results.

What do you like about the square format?

I'm fond of it, it's a revival of the iconic Polaroid format that I've been using for almost 15 years now, so I was obliged to like it. It's the perfect format for portraits.
