This series of photographs were taken using an old film with a damaged emulsion (probably water damage). I also used a lomography lens adapter so I could fit my plastic Diana F+ 38mm lens to my Nikon FM2n. My intention was to create the look of very old stressed photographs, by combining the soft focus of a Diana F+ lens with the damaged black and white film, as I wanted to evoke a feeling of nostalgia. I think to certain degree this worked, but the film was so degraded that the emulsion began to dissolve and lift from the acetate during developing, rendering most of the images unrecognisable. Some of the emulsion actually rubbed off on to back plate of my camera, so I had to carefully clean it before reloading. I’m all for using and experimenting with expired films but if you using old degraded film beware! I think the film may be too delicate for machine developing, so I may try this again next month when I will have access to a dark room. I will defiantly try using my lomography lens adapter with my Nikon FM2n and black and white film again, but next time using something more reliable.
