written by neja on 2012-09-05 #placesFirst there was a fishermen's village, then there was a spa, and now I say, 'enough is enough, let's declare this place a national heritage site!' Valencia has developed into one of Spain's coolest cities but some of the old areas are under constant threat.

The Dock Kitchen: An Amazing Fusion of Food and Design in London
written by neja on 2012-08-06 #placesThe place where you can eat and marvel at the exquisite design jewels. I was always a big fan of Tom Dixon's designs. You might think you don't know who he is, but you have definitely seen his iconic lamps everywhere - those reflective balls in bronze and silver. So after I've done some "Googling", I discovered that there is a restaurant above his shop as well. I just had to check it out.

Originally built as the Harbour Master’s private residence in the 1800’s, this grand architectural gem has been transformed into one of Cape Town’s most exclusive and elegant boutique hotels. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Cape Town
written by neja on 2012-07-31 #placesKirstenbosch - the biggest open-air botanical garden of all. I fell in love with this garden when I first came here back in 2004. So, when I arrived to Cape Town this year, I immediately wanted to go back. Although a few obstacles (in the shape of a vineyard visit and so on) almost prevented me from doing that, there I was, still back at Kirstenbosch!

written by neja on 2012-07-27 #placesBrick Lane Coffee - as quirky as it gets. This is what their web site page says: "We're locally owned and have been getting your orders wrong since 1999. All our milk is organic and always has been (even before it was trendy). Our coffee is fair trade organic and sourced directly by us (we've visited growers in Papua New Guinea twice)". Now here's what I have to say about it.

Sunset Watching from Dolphin Beach in Cape Town
written by neja on 2012-07-26 #placesDolphin Beach, the most unforgettable sunset in the entire world! There are many places for watching sunset in Cape Town: ever popular Camps Bay where you can watch the sun set while sipping Mojito, as well as enjoying champaign alfresco on the top of the Lion's Head mountain if you are into hiking. But arguably the most incredible of all is the sunset seen from the place called Dolphin Beach.

Victoria and Alfred Hotel, Cape Town
written by neja on 2012-07-25 #placesA hotel with the best ever view you could possibly ever wish for. While preparing for going to Cape Town, I obviously wanted to stay somewhere with a Table Mountain view. It is called such because of the clouds rolling across the top of the mountain, which looks like a table cloth. A lot of the hotels advertised "partial Table View", but in reality, you would have to hang out by the window with the possibility of a broken neck to see even a glimpse of this majestic mountain.

Most areas of the pub have spectacular views over the River Thames, including the beer garden and first floor balcony and terrace.

The Wapping Project
written by neja on 2012-06-25 #placesOne of the best galleries in London, for real. My love affair with this gallery started through a lucky accident. Haas Design Collective, Cape Town
written by neja on 2012-06-20 #placesHaas: coffee and art. When I lived in the colorful area of Bo-Kaap 7 years ago, I couldn't imagine finding SUCH a place there at all. But all these years later, things have changed for the good. Bo-Kaap is an area of Cape Town, South Africa formerly known as the Malay Quarter. It is quintessentially a Township, situated on the slopes of Signal Hill above the city centre and is a historical centre of Cape Malay culture in Cape Town.

Boulders Beach, South Africa
written by neja on 2012-06-04 #placesBoulders Beach - the African penguins' paradise. Started in 1982 by Adam and Eve of the Penguins, it has grown to about 2200 in recent years. This is partly due to the reduction in commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay, which has increased the supply of pilchards and anchovy, that is so adored by the penguins. They like to eat squid as well. The African penguin is listed in the Red Data Book as an endangered specie.

It is situated between the Tuileries and the Champs-Elysées. What is now a place for taking pictures with the Eiffel Tower on the horizon, as well as a reforming place for all sorts of street artists, is actually a place of great heritage.

written by neja on 2011-12-21 #placesOne of the most spectacularly located restaurants in the entire world. It was our last few hours in Paris, and we were desperate to dine somewhere around the Louvre. But it had to be a place which served Pomerol wine, there were no doubts about that. Created by Catherine de Medicis as the garden of the Tuileries Palace in 1564, it was first opened to the public in 1667, and became a public park after the French Revolution.
