I have been shooting, developing, and printing personally and professionally since 1981. I worked for 20 years in a traditional professional darkroom. I am always amazed at the creativity out there.
After many years, I was getting bored with flowers, butterflies, and sunsets. I had lost my drive. So many talented artists out there, I felt my work was getting buried. I didn’t feel inspired any more.
I am on Instagram as jpearlart54. This is where I started seeing this Lomography word. What was that? After much investigating of the artists and then the Lomography website, I was hooked to put it mildly.
I bought my first camera, the Red Sprocket Rocket 2.0. Then the Digitaliza. How fun to break all the rules I had in my head about what an image is supposed to look like. I studied the works here on Lomography and everything was so unconventional and exciting, I felt so free! Imagine celebrating sprocket holes, light leaks, double exposures, cut off images, etc. And the subjects are anything but ordinary.
I shot my first roll in black and white and it was underexposed only because I had 100 ISO on hand. You can see it here in my album: My Home Town. Something told me it would be ok. Perfectionism is dead in the world of creativity.
Please follow along in my journey to rediscover myself and my love of photography thanks to Lomography. Feel free to critique my work. That’s how we grow.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Happy Snapping!
