Went yesterday to Lucban with my friend Eyna to experience another exciting Pahiyas - the local celebration of the year's bountiful harvest in honor of the patron saint San Isidro Labrador. As what I have witnessed the past two years, there was a parade in the afternoon that featured folks dressed in colorful traditional attires. As May is the merry month of Santacruzan (the religious procession reenacting Queen Helena's search for the Holy Cross), local sagalas (queens) and consortes (escorts) were dressed in spectacular ternos (traditional gowns) and barongs (men's suits) using indigenous materials. Indeed, the whole parade was a celebration of Filipino ingenuity and creativity!
