The church in the name of the Monk Church of St. John Climacus was built in 1896-1897 with funds donated to the Donskoy Monastery by Major-General I.F. Tereshchenko. According to the philanthropist, the new church was to become a chapel-burial-vault, in which the ashes of the family members rest. However, from the original design eventually retreated, and in 1898 the chapel was converted into a church.
