Margelov

A monument to the hero of the Soviet Union, the army general, the commander of the airborne troops (VDV), Vasily Margelov, in Yekaterinburg.
The memorial complex is a composition consisting of a bronze sculpture by Vasily Filippovich Margelov, a full-length height of 2.2 meters, a pedestal 2.5 meters in height and a granite platform for 18 bronze tablets with the names of operating divisions and airborne brigades. The clothes of the Hero of the Soviet Union, sculptor Alexander Kokoteev, recreated exactly in archival photographs.
The monument was made on the initiative and at the expense of the chairman of the Sverdlovsk regional organization "Union of Russian Airborne Troops" Yevgeny Teterin.

Vasily Filippovich Margelov is a Soviet military leader, commander of the Airborne Forces in 1954-1959 and 1961-1979, army general, Hero of the Soviet Union, candidate of military sciences. He has many state awards, including two Orders of the Patriotic War of the first degree, as well as awards of foreign states (Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, China). Margelov's contribution to the formation of the Airborne Forces was reflected in the comic decipherment of the abbreviation of the Airborne Forces - "Uncle Vasya's Army."

    Памятник герою Советского Союза, генералу армии, главкому воздушно-десантных войск (ВДВ), Василию Маргелову, в Екатеринбурге.
    Мемориальный комплекс представляет собой композицию, состоящую из бронзовой скульптуры Василия Филипповича Маргелова, в полный рост высотой 2,2 метра, постамента высотой 2,5 метра и гранитной площадки для 18-ти бронзовых планшетов с наименованием действующих дивизий и бригад ВДВ. Одежду Героя Советского Союза скульптор Александр Кокотеев воссоздавал в точности по архивным фотографиям.
    Памятник был изготовлен по инициативе и на средства председателя Свердловской региональной организации "Союз десантников России" Евгения Тетерина.

    Василий Филиппович Маргелов - советский военачальник, командующий ВДВ в 1954-1959 и 1961-1979 годах, генерал армии, Герой Советского Союза, кандидат военных наук. Обладатель множества государственных наград, в том числе двух орденов Отечественной войны первой степени, а также наград иностранных государств (Болгария, Венгрия, Германия, Китай). Вклад Маргелова в формирование ВДВ нашел отражение в шуточной расшифровке аббревиатуры ВДВ - «Войска Дяди Васи».
