The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Zhestylevo

The temple of the Holy virgin Orthodox Church Dmitrov deanery of Moscow diocese. The temple is situated in the village Zhestylevo Dmitrov district of the Moscow region. The temple was built in the years 1889-1904 in pseudo-Russian style by project of architect Sergey Konstantinovich Rodionov, is a monument of architecture of local importance.

Mention of the village Zhestylevo in the documentary sources dates back to 1592. It is known that the village was a wooden Church, consecrated in the name of the Holy virgin. In the time of troubles, this Church was burned by the Poles. For several centuries thereafter, the Church in the village did not exist.

At the end of the XIX century it was decided to build, in Zhestyleve, stone intercession Church. For this purpose, in the village even built a brick factory. In 1904 construction was completed and the temple was consecrated. In 1937 the rector of the Church was arrested. The temple lost all the icons,
most of which burned, and some were taken by local residents and the Church of the neighboring village. In 1941 the church was closed, and it made a granary. In the late 1960-ies the Church was twice burned, and destroyed the roof of the quadrangle and the bell tent.
In 1998, the Church was returned to Russian Orthodox Church, began repair and restoration work.
