  As a kid I used to be in the station wagon on the highway and when we would get to Waterbury Connecticut I would see a giant neon cross on top of a hill. I spent my whole life wondering what that was and then when I found out what it was,I Lomoed it up there one Saturday.

  If you want to cut down your own tree and support a local conservation organization hit up the East Glastonbury Fish and Game Club Tree Farm in December. Not only will you be able to support a good cause but it also provides for quality family time and lots of photo ops with your Lomo camera.

• Berlin Bowl

  This is a super fun bowling alley on the Berlin turnpike, which was one of the original highways before we had real highways in America in the '50s. Anyways there are all manner of good popular bowling alleys down the street but this one is out of the way and no one really goes there.

  Troy, New York is 15 minutes north of Albany, the capital of New York State. During the mid-19th and early 20th centuries, Troy was one of the most prosperous cities in the United States due mainly to the iron works and textile factories that lined the riverfront.

  Bridgeport, Connecticut may well be the street photographer's dream. It's a poor city; "hardscrabble" is a term often used to describe it; along with "blue-color", "down-on-its-heels", "seedy", and "shaky". Let's face it, it's not dolled up nor is it sanitized - it's really ugly and it's real. It's a perfect laboratory for the fan of grit and those who search for the sublime amidst the mundane. But even a place as seemingly hopeless as Bridgeport is subject to gentrification and revitalization. Enterprise zones, development projects, eminent domain abuse - all are rapidly working their protean magic across the cityscape. Many of my favorite places for shooting have already mutated and changed; the television graveyard, the old trucks that dotted the vacant lots - all are gone. Former factories are turning into offices and loft condominiums, so you got to get there soon. Owners of blighted lots and abandoned warehouses are suddenly taking an interest in their property, chasing off itinerant photographers and locking the gates behind. You can still catch some unusual graffiti - at least if it's on public property.

  The thing about the USA and especially my area of it is that we have a forgotten history. People forget to mention things because it doesn’t fit nice and easy into our preferred narrative. Anyways in Connecticut our best industries have been things like tobacco farming, cloth production (from cotton grown by southern slaves), and gun making…. So you see why we try and forget?

  Old Sturbridge Village, or OSV as locals call it, is a historical "amusement" park. Basically it is filled with buildings and actors and animals all acting like it is 1837 new England.

• West Brookfield Memorial Day Parade

  Get up on that last Monday of May, and take a trip out to the West Brookfield Memorial Day Parade. Complete with the Scouts (boy and girl), the Veterans, and of course, all the old people, it's impossible to come to this parade and not get at least a couple sweet shots. After the parade, you may even want to take a walk down Pig's Alley, or down to the Knights Of Columbus, where some more Memorial Day photos can be found.
