My Horizon Streetscape Story: Utrecht by Night

I brought a digital Canon S95 compact camera to use as a light meter, and found out that when using a 400 iso film in the Horizon Perfekt, with the slowest shutter speed of 1/2 second and the largest aperture of f2.8, I could just capture properly exposed photos in the evening light. With this slow shutter speed you will have to rest your camera on a stable base, so for the picture above of the Utrecht city hall I used a garbarge can. Due to the angle of the garbage can it turned out into a pretty dynamic picture with our famous Dom tower in the far corner.

The second photo is taken on the Oudegracht, the most important shopping street in Utrecht with a canal in the middle. Directly next to the canal there are a lot of terraces, connected to various restaurants in the cellars under the street. The very wide angle of the Horizon camera allows to capture a nice panorama shot.

In the third picture you can see the Winkel van Sinkel: once a department store, later a bank office, and now a well-known bar-restaurant and nightclub in the centre of the city. The blue and red lights give some nice accents to this photo. All together, I was pretty surprised by the clear and sharp night pictures from my Horizon Perfekt. So I will be shooting more night photography in the city with my Horizon Perfekt in the near future, that’s for sure!
