The perfectly imperfect

The perfectly imperfect “exposure”.
To quote @mafioso, referring to this photo, “Isn’t that always the case – being drawn to the images that are less than perfect. And I would say that this one is perfectly imperfect.” This is indeed one of things that’s draws me to film photography, “the perfectly imperfect”.

The perfectly imperfect “blur”.
The exaggerated broad smile the complementary red and green colours worked so well. Of course at the time I took this photo I did not know how well the shot worked, not until I processed the roll.

The perfectly imperfect “decisive moment”.
Shooting from the hip. My timing was off, a little dog walked out of the frame before I pushed the shutter button. Instead of a picture of a little dog, I got was this odd abstract composition with the vertical lines of legs and round shape of a car tire. A very different visual narrative then the one I intended to get.

The perfectly imperfect “non-photo”.
I played with the idea of reducing abstract photography down to the three primary colours, just as Alexander Rodchenko did with painting before moving onto photography. This “experiment in blue” represents one of those images. This “non-photo” is the end of a lomochrome purple roll and in a way “the end of abstract photography”. I think it would look good printed on Aluminum.

It is through these perfectly imperfect photos that help move my photography forward, suggesting new directions and possibilities.
