A rare glimpse of morning sunshine was extremely welcome, coming as it did between endless days of cloud and rain. I love it when the sun turns everything this colour, even making the normally black asphalt look like golden nuggets.

Elite Chrome tends to give people an aura but in this case things went a bit mad making this guy look like he's straight out of those old adverts for Ready Brek.

Feeding the ducks and swans along the riverside in Cambridge the sky was soon full of seagulls hustling the other birds and nicking all the food. I couldn't help but chuck some bread at them and watch in amazement as they performed all sorts of aerobatics in order to pluck it out of the air. They never missed or dropped a single piece, especially when it was almost as big as their head.

I'm still getting used to my Horizon camera so it was no surprise when I mistakenly opened the back of it while there was still film inside. As a result I lost a few frames and a whole bunch of shots ended up blue. And that's precisely why I love analogue so much, when stuff like this happens and the results are totally unexpected but more than welcome at the same time.

Visiting a daffodil festival in the village of Thriplow, bizarrely, I didn't find many flowers to shoot so settled for some classic cars parked in a field instead. This vintage Jag was in mint condition with a whole load of photogenic chrome up front.

From a filmswap with the awesome captainbonobo https://www.flickr.com/photos/captainbonobo/ This probably wouldn't have made it on to the list of 'keepers' had it not been for that gull, shot in Brighton, creeping in. Nice one chief.

As a windsurfer, you look out for signs that tell whether a beach is good and windy or not. Trees bent over at crazy angles is a dead cert while half a flag fluttering defiantly in the breeze means it's probably worth checking out. I doubt these schoolkids gave a monkeys about that sort of thing but for me it's so much more important than coastal erosion or long shore drift or whatever it was their teacher was gabbling on about.

On a hot summer's day there's nothing better than sitting around on the beach watching everything going on and this fella found the perfect spot to do just that. There's also a hell of a lot to be said for finding somewhere off the ground which means much less grit in your sandwiches.

That small black speck on the right isn't a bird, it was a military transport circling overhead. Walking between Boscombe and Bournemouth we saw it going backwards and forwards over the sea before eventually dropping its load. A big container came out of the back suspended by 4 parachutes, followed by a lone parachutist. Immediately the sea below became a flurry of activity with loads of boats all speeding about waiting to pick up whatever it was that got chucked out the back of the plane. We reckoned it was the Special Boat Service, operating out of Poole, on manoeuvres or something. All very exciting. Not that this bloke noticed, he was oblivious. Far too busy roasting himself and catching some z's, totally missing out on the whole spectacle.

Been shooting a few swans lately, seeing as how they tend to work quite well in doubles. Sure enough, having taken the first frame by the river in Cambridge I got lucky second time around on a night out at the O2 in London. It was the Monty Python reunion which wasn't all that great but fortunately there were plenty of opportunities for ground shots in long corridors which kinda made up for it.

I often wonder how these solitary shoes end up getting left behind. You might think that if you arrive at a beach with 2 shoes, it would be a simple feat of memory to leave with exactly the same amount. Apparently not because whenever I go to the beach I usually manage to find some lonely and forgotten footwear.

Swans are an occupational hazard when rowing in Cambridge. When it comes to rights of way they'll generally get out of the way of a moving boat rather than get slapped by the oars. The rest of the time they tend to sashay around like they own the place.

Another shot from the tunnel complex around London Waterloo station. There's always a slight risk involved in getting these shots because no matter how 'normal' you try to look, people will always think you're some kind of stalker. I mean, who in their right mind hangs around these places, following people and acting strangely with a camera? If only they understood the concept of a ratseye everything would be just fine.
